I H8 SMS

Whatever happened to people just talking? Why does it seem like such an effort to just call a person when you have something to say? It may be cheaper to txt someone rather than make a pay-per-second phone call, but after you’ve sent several txts back and forth, it could’ve been cheaper to just call them after all.

I’m not a fast txt’er. It takes me ages to key in a message. Something that takes less than 5 seconds to say takes minutes of button-punching. Then you have to wait several more minutes for a response (if you’re lucky - I’ve waited hours for an sms response.)

Finally - y do u ppl sms like this? It may be quicker to key in, but sometimes it’s like trying to decipher code. So then I have to ring you anyway and say WTF?

Rant over.

what you can do in a day

Hey all,

Well, we’ve been slack with the blogging. But in my new and improved life, I should have more time to blog. But maybe not. Just before Easter I quit one of my jobs - the admin position at the ANU. I did this because I was constantly feeling overwhelmed, unhappy and like I wanted to pack lip in. I didn’t want 30+ hours of paid work on top of lip. It was a hard decision, though, because I worked with such a great group of scientists. Anyway, one of the things that made it a good job was because there wasn’t always heaps of stuff to do. Which means I had time to do things like blog and read vibewire and dash off lip forms and such. I’m wondering if it will prove easier to do things like blogging when I’m bored at work, rather than when I’m home with more time, but with a) more pressing things to get done and b) nothing stopping me from slacking off but my own willpower.

That said, it’s amazing what you can get done in a day when you don’t have to go to work. I woke up at 8.30 this morning, showered, was slow in waking and getting dressed, had coffee, read a couple articles, a bit of The Second Sex, edited an article for someone, got the lip newsletter text into the InDesign template, had lunch and read a bit of Leading Women by Eva Cox, went shopping at St Vinnies, a used bookshop and Coles and am now back home getting more lip stuff done. Okay, well, I’m blogging… I’m about to go pick up my cross-stitch, which has just been framed. It is 4.09. I still have to work on the lip business plan, write some emails to the lip staff, finishing housework that I began yesterday and cook dinner. I should get most of that done, I think. It’s great to feel productive! And I’ll have a few hours in the morning tomorrow to finish what I didn’t get done today before I am off to work! Everyone should work part-time…
