wonder woman photos revealed at san diego’s comic-con

At Comic-Con in San Diego over the weekend, Superman: Man of Steel director Zack Snyder revealed a photo of what our feminine superhero Wonder Woman will look like in the upcoming Batman v Superman film set to be released in 2016 – and it’s definitely not the glossy and dolled up Lynda Carter’s red, white, blue and gold character of the 70’s TV show Wonder Woman.

The role of the first Wonder Woman that will ever hit the movie screen was revealed to be awarded to Gal Gadot back in December 2013. Gadot won the Miss Israeli contest in 2004 and has been in the Fast and the Furious flicks, but other than that her experience is sparse. An odd choice for a character previously perceived as Americanised, Gadot is a relatively unknown and ethnic pick for this highly critiqued and anticipated role. And with the new photos up of what Wonder Woman will look like, it’s fairly obvious that Snyder is going for a gritty and unique look for the Amazonian heroine.

The reveal has launched both praise and critique from comic book fans and film critics all over the globe. It’s been pointed out that she’s wearing less-than-practical high heels and that she looks a lot more like Xena: Warrior Princess.

No matter what anyone says now, it’s obvious that the upcoming flick, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, which features Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman, is going to make it or break it depending on how Wonder Woman is perceived.

Forbes writer Scott Mendelson writes: ‘If Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman isn’t used well or doesn’t come off well, Zack Snyder will be forever known as the guy who screwed up Wonder Woman and that will be the film’s enduring legacy.’

‘This is an event nearly 75 years in the making’ and is not only reliant on Gadot’s acting and Snyder’s direction, but also will only please all fans if ‘Wonder Woman kicks literal and metaphorical butt, preferably passing both the Bechdel Test and the Sexy Lamp Test while being an entertaining and engaging supporting character.’

No pressure at all, right?

I for one can’t help but put the pressure on too, as I am a huge Wonder Woman fan and will judge any small slip in the direction that Wonder Woman takes. ? I think it looks like Gadot can kick butt, but I am a bit concerned about the very different direction the costume has taken.

One small step in the wrong direction and everything will fall apart. Fans will be left with a less-than-perfect Wonder Woman and may have to wait another 75 years before she is taken up again. That won’t please anyone. So do us a favour Zack – tread carefully.

What do you think of the reveal of the Wonder Woman costume and design?
