I know this is too late, but I guess it might help next time! As for around Parramatta... I'm not so sure, but if you trek out of your way a bit further to the hills district there is a fantastic thai restaurant called "Thai Spy" on Windsor Road. It isn't upmarket, but the food is fantastic. There is also a great Indian restaurant in Stanhope Gardens called the 'New Turban'. Hayashi Teppanyaki in Castle Hill is also pretty decent, as is Mountain View Chinese restaurant in Dural. I would also recommend City Extra in Parramatta though. There is also a good Bavarian Beer Cafe (no, I don't like beer but the food is good!). In the city itself there are plenty- I know a great dumpling place near haymarket but the name escapes me now :| As for shopping, mainly hit up the markets- always get some great buys :) Jennie x Hey,
