kinesiology: getting to the heart of the matter

Kinesiology is often referred to as an alternative form of natural health care. These days, natural therapies such as Acupuncture and Naturopathy have joined the ranks as accepted and effective types of treatment, but what about Kinesiology?

Kinesiology is the study of human movement derived from the combination of ancient Chinese medicine and western science on muscle movement. Kinesiologists base their therapy on the concept that muscle movement provides an enormous amount of information about how our bodies function. Your internal energy tells a practitioner about your physiological, mechanical and psychological function. It is essentially the balance between the science.

Seeing a Kinesiologist can be a wake-up call for many things about our bodies that we neglect because we simply don’t realise the impact unseen elements can have on our health. Kinesiology invites the patient to take a look at the internal connection with the outer symptoms. Marney Perna is the founder of Kinique Kinesiology in Queensland and is an advocate for the benefits of Kinesiology.

‘I love how it gets to the heart of the matter and can show the way to address disharmony in all forms. Kinesiology is second to none in addressing the impact of stress on the body. It’s a hands on modality and so sits evenly with chiropractic methods, massage, acupuncture, Bowen therapy and the like, however due to also being able to work at an deep emotional level it can also be easily grouped with energetic healing and holistic ‘counselling’. In many health challenges the physical component is affected by emotional or chemical issues,’ she says.

It is this holistic approach that has propelled Kinesiology forward as a preferred type of treatment. Those who have tried and tested it find the natural pathway to health and balance is achievable through the careful management of all aspects of our wellbeing.

Natasha David is a Kinesiology convert who has seen the benefits in her own life. ‘Kinesiology is stand out in getting to the subconscious levels of where we hold stress within our bodies, and being able to release that stress and bring the body back to balance from a physical, emotional and nutritional perspective. I found it the only method that systematically helped me overcome anxiety and depression, as well as long term back pain. Through Kinesiology I was able to move from a state of constant struggle, unable to move my body comfortably, to three months after my first session being able to complete my first small triathlon.’

The ability to consolidate the connection between several of the body’s elements and look at the whole picture, rather than one part arguably gives Kinesiology an edge over other natural therapies. Although every person’s situation is specific and should be handled with care, it does provide the possibly of cutting out the need to go to many different healthcare appointments, saving both time and money.

Marney says Kinesiology can be a well-rounded solution. ‘I personally feel Kinesiology already consistently incorporates many of the other natural therapies as a part of the overall health regime for the client. Many existing naturopaths use the ‘muscle test’ to identify the relevant product and dosage for their clients. One benefit over acupuncture is no needles are required to activate or stimulate points. It is amazingly accurate for identifying the issues and the relevant solution required by the client.’

For people who are seeking a natural therapeutic answer it is a treatment that is worth considering. As Marney suggests, ‘Kinesiology sessions used on a regular basis can really provide a person with a unique advantage.’
