Eugenie Bouchard has become the first Canadian woman to go through to the Australian Open semi-finals, but more pressing to the media is her love life.

Following her victory over former world number one player Ana Ivanovic, Bouchard was interviewed by former player Samantha Smith (apparently, on behalf of her male fan base).

‘…They want to know: if you could date anyone in the world of sport, of movies – I’m sorry, they asked me to say this – who would you date?’ Smith asked.

The question resulted in Eugenie to facepalm, as you can see for yourself, and politely utter that she would like to date Justin Bieber.

Bouchard has a small but loyal fan base known as the ‘Genie Army’, with a large portion being male.

However, Channel 7’s double standard (i.e. men are pros, women are spectacles) in interviewing Bouchard has incensed both male and female tennis fans who took to social media.

‘Eugenie Bouchard has a mature, solid game. That post match question was idiotic and sexist,’ fellow Canadian, @drewwpg tweeted.

With Bouchard now out of the tournament after losing to Li Na, it’s a shame the teen’s experience has been marred by sexism.
