film review: burning man
Burning Man is a new Australian drama from writer/director Jonathan Teplitzky who previously brought us Gettin’ Square (2003) and Better Than Sex (2000). The film follows Tom, a young British chef, as he deals with the traumatic death of his wife from breast cancer. Using his job at a successful Bondi Beach restaurant, and his rendezvous with various women as healing mechanisms, he also has to work hard to re-establish his relationship with his young son.
The film is stylised, colourful at times and it utilises a fragmented, non-linear timeline, which helps counter the over-powering theme of grief at the heart of the film. But put quite simply, this is a sad story about the loss of true love.
Burning Man stars the compelling British actor Matthew Goode (Watchmen, Match Point, A Single Man), rising star Bojana Novakovic (Devil, Edge of Darkness) and our award-winning actress Rachel Griffiths, also makes an appearance.
