film previews: new this week – 17th June
Lou (Dir. Belinda Chayko)
Eleven-year-old Lou’s (Lily Bell-Tindley) life is changed when her estranged grandfather (John Hurt) moves into their family’s small house – though he hardly lives there, lost in his own remembrances and recollections. Lou is a film about past hurts, and healing old wounds for the future. Read an interview with writer/director Belinda Chayko on the lip website here.
Shrek Forever After (Dir. Mike Mitchell)
The fourth – and allegedly (or is that hopefully) final – film in the Shrek franchise, this film sees its title character signing a deal with devilish Rumpelstiltskin, and finding himself in an alternate reality of the fantasy-land Far Far Away. Featuring old favourites, the oddball Donkey and ladies-man Puss in Boots (plus a few pounds), this one might be best saved for the kids.
I Am Love (Dir. Luca Guadagnino)
Starring Tilda Swinton, I Am Love is a film about passion and patriarchy, freedom and family bonds, love and lust. It’s an Italian film, after all. This film has opened to rave reviews, and the cinematography is almost as striking as Tilda Swinton herself.
