kiss your holidays goodbye, presented by lip
On Thursday, February 24 2011, ‘Kiss Your Holidays Goodbye’, a fundraising event to support lip magazine, took place at the Jade Monkey in Twin St, Adelaide.
Headlined by Auxilla, and supported by TEA and Michael Cranwell in his first solo show. It was also drummer, Mark Fonz’s last appearance as an official member of Auxilla, having come to the difficult decision to devote more time to his business while the band continues onwards and upwards. But he went out on a high, with the audience demanding Auxilla’s first encore to date, and what is surely the first of many.
It was definitely my favourite of all the gigs we have played and I couldn’t have imagined going out of the band a better way,’ says Fonz. ‘Except perhaps at a fully packed Wembley Stadium!’
Michael Cranwell started off the night with a wonderful acoustic set, displaying just some of his musical talents, while TEA had the crowd jumping around almost as high and hard as they were; a band that has become known for their crazy and lively sets, regardless of whether they’re playing to 10 people or 100. Auxilla finished off the night with their characteristic energy and solid musicianship.
A great time was had by all and on behalf of lip magazine, I can’t thank everyone enough for their efforts both on the night and in the lead-up to the event. Special thanks must go to Bob Hookway for providing many suggestions and an ever-faithful sounding board, Michael Vecchio for donating his time to do sound on the night, Stevan Pavlovic and Anastasia Crossman for their much appreciated help in organising the event, Freya Dougan-Whaite for the poster design, Josh Van Looy for his support and ensuring that everyone’s wrist was well-stamped, all the musicians for their performances and promotion of the event and, of course, lip magazine! Thank you everyone!
