I H8 SMS
Whatever happened to people just talking? Why does it seem like such an effort to just call a person when you have something to say? It may be cheaper to txt someone rather than make a pay-per-second phone call, but after you’ve sent several txts back and forth, it could’ve been cheaper to just call them after all.
I’m not a fast txt’er. It takes me ages to key in a message. Something that takes less than 5 seconds to say takes minutes of button-punching. Then you have to wait several more minutes for a response (if you’re lucky – I’ve waited hours for an sms response.)
Finally – y do u ppl sms like this? It may be quicker to key in, but sometimes it’s like trying to decipher code. So then I have to ring you anyway and say WTF?
Rant over.
(Sorry to leave a guy comment on your girl blog but I was just randomly hitting the next blog button…)
I don’t know about you crazy young’uns but the rest of us actually call people to talk all the time. Heck, some of us don’t even HAVE a mobile. I’ve never had one, and don’t see myself changing that any time soon. So of course those calls come from my home phone or *gasp* a pay phone.
Of course, just as I can barely remember life before the Internet, I don’t expect you to understand the lifestyle of a previous technological era, when your “mobile bill” was $0.25 x (# of calls made), with no contract and no roaming charges.
TXTing is easy! All you need is one billion monkeys sitting at a billion mobile phones, and then…
It takes me ages to text because I spell most things out longhand, except for “you”. When I first got a mobile (a very late recruit, I held out for ages until this bloody magazine made me need to be contactable) I used it to make phone calls and talk. I think my $30 prepaid ran out in 3 weeks. So now I text and it lasts for months. But then I usually only text for specific reasons like confirming a date or something – not to have a chat.
