is there a vaccine for overly-conservative attitudes?
The US Food and Drug Administration has recently approved the Gardasil vaccine, developed to protect women against cervical cancer and some STDs. This vaccine could save thousands of lives every year, however, it has to be given by injection to girls before they become sexually active—about 12 is the age recommended.
This issue is going to be a controversial one for sure. Despite the fact that this vaccine will help prevent cancer, many parents will have to be persuaded that vaccinating their little girl against STDs is a good idea. The reminder that their daughters will have sex, probably a lot earlier than they would like or approve of, is a confronting fact that could potentially turn them off the idea of the vaccine altogether.
