film: world of women film festival

Women do a lot of amazing things, we all know that, but it’s always nice when there’s a chance to recognise this in some way. The World of Women Film Festival (WOW) does just that, celebrating the achievements of female filmmakers with awards for those who have worked behind the scenes of short films. This is the 17th year, an impressive record for the non-profit organisation that hosts the festival – Women in Film and Television NSW. Sponsored by Screen Australia, the NSW government and various other organisations, it seems to be an initiative with plenty of support.

After showing off the films internationally in Sweden and the UK, WOW has been touring Australia for the past few months. Its current location is Canberra, with the second screening this Saturday 10th December, 2pm at Arc Cinema. For anyone in our fine capital city interested in the film industry or simply in celebrating what women are capable of, you can find out information here.

Sydney-siders, keep an eye out for WOW 2012 in March next year. The competition has now closed, but for any readers who fancy themselves the next Sofia Coppola, WOW 2013 might be something to think about!
