Iced Jewelry – Absolute Genius or Epic Fail?

Erika Zorzi and Matteo Sangalli of 01Mathery recently decided that putting jewelry into an ice-cube tray (filled with water obviously) and making yourself some new accessories would be very cool. Literally.

The idea is basically to use a simple necklace or bracelet and let it set in ice-tray so that the ice cube is attached to said necklace/bracelet. So instead of going out and buying a new charm or a new pendant every time you need a change, you simply make yourself one – with ice. Therefore, not only does it costs zip, it’s also temporary (i.e. you’re not stuck with something you’ll never wear because you realize you never really liked it in the first place).

You could also just use a simple piece of string, or maybe add food coloring to the water to make it more interesting. They have quite a few intriguing do-it-yourself thigns – all the way from grass slippers to lace clogs. I love the idea of it all but I just don’t see myself actually wearing any of this.

DIY jewelry has become quite popular of late but I’m one of those people who would much rather go out and spend a couple extra bucks on something ready made than sit and actually make it for myself – it is far too much of a hassle and if you are as artistically-challenged as me, the results are, more often than not, pretty horrendous. Also, DIY jewelry, even if it turns out to be something gorgeous, doesn’t last for very long so I think that while it may be fun as something to do in your free time, it isn’t the best option in the long run.

I’m not so sure about this one. Is it a cute idea? Sure. But is it practical? Not so much. I don’t really want my necklaces melting into my shirt or my bracelets dripping down my arm, thank you very much. But maybe that is just me; what do you guys think? Yay for Nay for the “5 Minute Chic” jewelry? Leave a comment below and let me know!
