lip mix: women of 2017 (so far)
2017 so far has certainly had its highs and lows. This weekend we are seeing the first ever women’s AFL grand final on free to air TV (high) while a few weeks ago a bill to decriminalise abortion failed to pass through parliament in my home state of QLD (low). It seems if you are a woman in the Sunshine State you have rights over your body if you want to say, hone it to become an elite athlete, but not if you want to exercise your reproductive freedom.
But, I digress…
Despite the roller coaster that we find ourselves on daily as women, there is nothing like a good soundtrack to keep spirits high. And if 2017 is doing one thing right, it is certainly music. So far this year we have seen phenomenal new tracks from favourites like Feist, The XX and Lana Del Rey, as well as some homegrown gems from amazing new voices like Gretta Ray, Amy Shark and Ali Barter. With March just coming to a close, take a moment to get to know these tracks before Taylor Swift’s 1989 follow up dominates the airwaves.
Whatever you find yourself doing this weekend, turn up the volume and enjoy the sounds of women, loud and proud.
